DARKWEB COLUMN.

Welcome to all new visitors!

Darkwebonline.com has added many new features since I last wrote this column. Firstly, there's our new Top 100 feature, the first installment, the top 100 horror movies, will hopefully give you an example of the kind of movies we all love here at Darkwebonline.com.

Also new is our weekly one-page e-mail newsletter, which will let you know before anybody else our latest stock, as well as offering exclusive discount and offers to subscribers. To apply, click on the newletter link on the home page.

Just below this article is our second installment in our versus tornament, as Lon Chaney Snr. takes on Claude Raines from the titles of the perfect phantom (of the Opera that is). I'll be added quite a few reviews soon too, so make sure you keep checking the site for new stuff.

I'm not sure when Darkweb will next be holding a stall at a film fair, but we'll definitely be at the NEC in August, and for those of you who've never been, it's really worth going to Birmingham to check out this amazing film fair.

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, you should be aware that Star Wars: Attack of the Clones is well worth seeing. Whilst it's becoming apparent that non of the new additions to the legacy are going to match the originals, this is at least a vast improvement over Phantom Menace, with stronger characters, better action, a little taste of the darkside that should make the third film the best of the bunch. If only Lucas would hire a good script writer!

At the time of writing, Spiderman is not quite out, but by all reports, it looks like it's gonig to be a great great success, and has already inspired a blockbuster remake of 'The Incredible Hulk'.

Well, that's it for this month, enjoy our new features, and remember, if you'd like to see your work published on Darkwebonline.com, then feel free to e-mail it to us. Oh, and don't forget to buy something to keep this site going! - WSS

Archived Tournaments: Ultimate Hunchback Invinicible Invisible Man Maddest Man Sculpter Prosperous Prospero Likely Last Man

Chaney's Phantom
Rains' Phantom

Each Month, We Will Compare Performances of the Greatest HSF Stars of All Time. This Month it's the contest for the title of the Perfect Phantom? It's Lon Chaney Sr. Vs. Claude Rains!

THE RATINGS

Their are five rounds. Each Actor is rated from 0% to 20% in each round. The total combined percentages of the five rounds equals the total rating. The star with the highest total rating goes through to next month!

ROUND ONE - Pedigree

Chaney: Having previously played the 'Hunchback of Notre Dame', Chaney had begin to establish himself as the silent stars of spinechillers - 17%

Rains: The Invisible Man himself, Raines had also appeared in 'The Clairvoyant' and 'The Wolfman'. - 16%

ROUND TWO - Suitability

Chaney: His inventive use of make-up creates the most memorable monsters of the silent scree, however, it's really could have been anybody under all that make-up. - 16%

Rains: The voice that will forever be associated with Jack Griffin is put to good use again, and has there's less make-up, there's more room for facial expression. Raines successfully creates a tragic, but crazy, Phantom. - 18%

ROUND THREE - Looking the Part

Chaney: Visually, this Phantom is really sacry, but the truth is he dosen't look like the one discribed in Gaston Leroux's book - 16%

Rains: This phantom is more man than monster, but he is how Leroux discribed, and the famous mask is back too - 18%

ROUND FOUR - Acting Ability

Chaney: Chaney rants and raves like there's no tomorrow, sensationally dramatic performance - 19%

Rains: It's the voice that does it; coupled with a wonderfully energetic display - 19%

ROUND FIVE - The Film Overall

Chaney: The 1925 version is the best ever made; an all time classic, even if it is silent. - 19%

Rains: It's got sound, it's in technocolor, but this 1943 version is still not as good as the Chaney version - 17%

TOTALS - Well, we all know that the 1925 version is better than the 1943 version, so surely, Chaney rules again?

Chaney: 87%

Rains: 88%

It's an upset! Raines wins by the single point! Raines wins the title, but must defend next month against Vincent Price when we ask: Who's the most Invincible Invisible Man!
